Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cadet AI?
Cadet AI is a study-aid mobile app for UK Army Cadet Force (ACF) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) cadets. It combines TANGO (an AI study assistant that's grounded in your cadet training and won't make things up) with quizzes, progression tracking, badges and awards, to help you learn the material and climb the ranks.
Who is it for?
It's built for cadets aged 13 and over in the ACF and CCF who want to excel in their training. It's also useful for parents and guardians who want reassurance about safety and privacy, and for detachment and section staff supporting cadets' revision, because it encourages cadets to confirm the detail with their instructors. Under-13s cannot create an account.
Is this an official ACF, CCF or MOD app?
No. Cadet AI is an independent study aid. It is not an official MOD, Army Cadet Force, Combined Cadet Force or Cadet Forces product, and it is not endorsed by them. It simply helps cadets revise the cadet training syllabus.
Can I trust the answers TANGO gives?
TANGO is built to stick to your cadet training and won't make things up. If it isn't sure, it tells you rather than making something up. Always confirm important facts with your instructors. It's designed to give you the real material, but it's a study aid, so always follow the guidance of your unit staff for assessments.
Is Cadet AI free? What are Plus and Pro?
Cadet AI is free to download and use. The free Cadet plan covers the core training for every cadet: 5 TANGO characters, 5 TANGO messages and 3 quizzes a day, all 13 subjects, ranks, badges and awards, short TANGO voice reactions and opt-in leaderboards. Two optional upgrades go further, billed through Google Play: Plus (£4.99/mo or £44.99/yr) gives 50 messages and 20 quizzes a day, 15 TANGO characters, matched answer playback up to 5,000 text characters a day, and a daily timed mock assessment; Pro (£9.99/mo or £89.99/yr) adds 200 messages a day, unlimited quizzes, unlimited mock assessments, smart mistake review, all 20 TANGO characters and matched answer playback up to 8,000 text characters a day. There are no ads, no third-party analytics trackers, and we never sell your data. Cancel anytime in Google Play; the Plus and Pro monthly plans each include a 7-day free trial.
Can I hear answers read out loud?
Yes. Read-aloud is included for everyone. Switch it on and TANGO briefs you out loud on the chat screen, hands-free. Plus and Pro go further with a matched character voice, where TANGO speaks in its own lifelike voice. You can also turn on celebration sounds for when you earn a badge, award or rank.
Can I choose my TANGO?
Yes. Pick your TANGO from the 20-character roster (the Free plan includes 5 characters, Plus unlocks 15, and Pro unlocks all 20) and it travels with you across the app. Each TANGO follows a curated level 1-20 upgrade ladder, earned through meaningful app use rather than random loot boxes or paid chance mechanics.
Is my data safe? What about privacy?
Privacy comes as standard. Cadet AI runs no ads and no third-party analytics trackers, and we never sell your data. Under-13s cannot create an account. National and unit leaderboards are opt-in and off by default, so you're never listed unless you choose to be. You can read the full privacy policy here on the site.
Is Cadet AI on Google Play, and is there an iPhone version?
Cadet AI is available now on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. There is no iOS (iPhone or iPad) version yet. Download it from Google Play, or email support@cadetai.co.uk if you need help.
What subjects and levels does it cover?
Quizzes span 13 cadet subjects: Map Reading & Navigation, Fieldcraft, Drill & Turnout, First Aid, Radio Communications, Weapons Handling, Expedition Training, Military Knowledge, Keeping Active, Community Engagement, Adventurous Training, Junior Cadet Instructor and Senior Cadet Instructor. The taught levels run from Basic through 4-Star as appropriate to each subject. There's also a Quick Reference and drill practice.
How does progression work?
You earn XP from quizzes, climb levels and military ranks, and unlock star-level awards from Basic to 4-Star. Your progress is tracked across the cadet training syllabus. Along the way you can unlock 229 badges across study and character milestones, plus 35 in-app awards inspired by real cadet honours, keep daily streaks, take the Daily TANGO Challenge, and choose from 20 TANGO characters (5 on the Free plan, 15 with Plus, all 20 with Pro). You can retry quizzes any time to push your score higher.
Are the leaderboards compulsory?
Not at all. National and unit leaderboards are completely opt-in and turned off by default. You only appear if you choose to take part, so you can rank up purely for yourself if you prefer.
How do I get in touch?
